Choosing a career is the most monumental decision you have to make.
You want to be outstanding at your work, and known for that. To be outstanding, you need to develop a crystal-clear picture of the talents you want to offer the market, and the value you wish to provide. All your decisions, including which jobs to accept and which skills to improve, will be driven from that picture.
Creating a compelling online presence requires you to apply product marketing principles: deep understanding of your value proposition, and deep understanding of the people who you’re offering it to.
Your choice will impact your income, your happiness, and ultimately your lifestyle.
This site does NOT provide career coaching.
The primary goal of this site is to help you market yourself online. We cannot accomplish that goal without also helping you crystallize your personal vision, assuming you haven’t done so already.
So as we continue to build out the website, we’ll be providing resources to help you devise your personal value proposition.
In Hedgehog Concept, we suggest the use of a model from Jim Collins’ influential Good to Great to help you work towards understanding your driving vision. It’s certainly not enough, nor is it intended to be. But it’s a hint of the quality of content you should expect at JobLure.com.
What if I don’t know?
Some people take years to discover their hedgehog concept through self-reflection and coaching. As you read this, you may not know what your hedgehog is. I started building my online presence while I was, in a sense, still choosing a career–and you can too.
Your hedgehog be something that evolves over time as you get to know yourself better, and as you gain more experience in your career. Your online presence can evolve as your understanding matures, and it usually will. In fact, the process of creating your online presence can help you think through your options, resulting in a clearer sense of self! So don’t be discouraged if you don’t have all the answers yet.
We’ll go into more detail about building your online presence, or Job Lure, in future posts.
